Audition Criteria & Process

Admission into the CYT Company Class is by audition only. Due to the advanced and focused nature of this program, auditions are designed to assess not only performance ability, but also work ethic, readiness, and character. Register for auditions below. 

Audition Format

Auditions will take place in two parts:

Part 1: Dance Audition (Group Call- 45 minutes)
All auditioning students will also attend a separate dance call where they will learn and perform a short combination. 

Part 2: Individual Auditions (12-15 minutes per person)
Each student will sign up for a scheduled audition time and be seen individually in a focused, professional, and distraction-free setting.

Part 1: Dance Audition (Group Call – 45 Minutes)

  • Students will learn a short musical theatre combination in a group setting
  • Combination will include elements of technique, musicality, and performance quality
  • Will perform for evaluation

What We’re Looking For in Dance:
  • Coordination and body awareness
  • Ability to quickly pick up choreography
  • Musicality and rhythm
  • Energy, commitment, and performance presence
  • Willingness to step outside of comfort zones

Part 2: Individual Audition (12–15 Minutes Per Student)

1. Slate/Vocal Audition (2-3 minutes)
  • Prepare one musical theatre song cut (approximately 60 seconds)
  • Song should be memorized and showcase range, tone, and storytelling ability
  • Upload a pre-cut track to the airtable prior to auditions. Please submit an actual file instead of a link.

2. Monologue (1–2 minutes)
  • Prepare one memorized monologue (60–90 seconds)
  • Must be from a play or musical (no film/TV)
  • Focus on clear storytelling, emotional connection, and character development

3. Personal Interview (5 minutes)
  • A key component of the process, assessing maturity, commitment, and alignment with the program’s expectations.

Preparation Expectations

  • Come fully prepared with memorized material
  • Wear appropriate dance attire for the dance call (no restrictive clothing)
  • Bring proper footwear (jazz shoes or sneakers recommended)
  • Wear more professional attire for your individual audition (feel free to show us your personality!)
  • Arrive early and ready to work
  • Carry yourself with professionalism and confidence

Selection is limited. Not all auditioning students are guaranteed acceptance into the CYT Company Class.
