Class Description

Ever have a director tell you to "feel the beat" when you perform a song?  How do you "feel the beat?"  That is what we will be doing! Using our hands and feet, we will stomp, clap, tap, bang and drum our way to feeling the beat.  This fun, active class will teach you how read,  count and play different rhythms. There are hidden rhythms in the everyday world.  We will discover them and feel the beat while learning basic rhythms and how to keep a consistent beat. This beginning percussion/movement class will use unusual items to journey through percussion, music, movement and performance. You will need a 5 gallon bucket for us to use in the "bucket band."  So be sure to come join the fun!

Patty Johnson

The Johnson’s moved here about a year ago from Houston where they were very involved in CYT. Patty was part of the CYT teaching staff, mainly teaching vocal classes but also volunteered in numerous shows helping with costumes, props, meals and front of house duties. She has a degree in Elementary Education, teaching in the public school system for 12 years and then homeschooling her 5 boys for the past 21 years. Her love of music and theatre goes back to high school where she was in several shows and has passed that love onto several of her sons. She has taught private piano lessons for over 20 years and has done some volunteer directing of children’s programs for her church. She is excited to join the CYT Nashville Family!
