Class Description

Spielberg. Lucas. The Duffers. The Russos. What do these visionaries all have in common? Once upon a time, they had no idea what they were doing - just like you! Now, that’s an oversimplification of the artistic journeys that led to hits like Star Wars and Stranger Things, but the question remains: where do I start? How do I block a scene or inspire my actors? Why does telling this story matter to me? In this class we will tackle the technical by re-staging iconic scenes from plays, movies, and musicals in service to the most important question a director can ask: how do I see?

Emily Eytchison

Emily Eytchison (BFA Theatre Directing, Lipscomb University) took a break from her entertainment industry aspirations when diagnosed with fibromyalgia in January 2017. Once filled with visions of helming blockbusters like “Wonder Woman” and “The Avengers”, she now spends her weekdays as an administrative assistant at Christ Presbyterian Church. Though her current career plans center on her writing, she feels the Lord has blessed her with the opportunity to reconnect with her theatrical background by sharing those gifts and passions with young artists. It is her honor to partner with CYT in doing so.
