Class Description

Some of the greatest songs of our generation were crafted for animation. Sure, we can talk all day about Disney classics and their memorable melodies, the modern fleet of insta-classics (Frozen, Moana, etc) is no exception. However, it's easy to forget "You've got a Friend In Me" reflects the friendship built between bedroom toys (Toy Story), or that "Two Worlds" describes the familial bonds between a jungle book kid and the gorilla family that takes him in (Tarzan). In this class, we will unearth these hidden gems and the animated features that brought them to life. We will listen and learn the songs, study scenes, watch short clips from their films, and discuss how they relate to each other. With this in mind, we will bring these songs to life ourselves. So if you like cartoons, and you love to sing, this class is for you.

Peter Horecka

A 2017 graduate of the Lutheran affiliated Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, MN), I am currently a freelance Audio Engineer in the greater Nashville area. Growing up in Franklin with current CYT Leadership Team member Elise Horecka, I spent my childhood performing with the Starbright and Pulltight community theatre programs, developing a passion for musical theatre and performance. After a quick, two-year stint playing junior hockey in central Canada, I spent the next four years at Gustavus, earning a degree in Communication Studies while also studying vocal performance and performing with the premier concert choir. Joining CYT Nashville is an exciting opportunity as I get to rekindle my passion for musical theatre and performance with the bright, talented young performers here in my hometown. Looking forward to a fun ride!
