Class Description

This class will learn and perform certain scenes, songs and dances from the classic story, “Peter Pan”! We’ll use this show to explore how to find and create new characters, sing in different styles, and dance like a pirate. Our participants will have the chance to learn favorites like “ I Won’t Grow Up” and “A Pirate’s Life for Me”, while getting into the mind of Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook! This class will culminate in a showcase at the end of the session. Come sing and dance with us in Neverland!
Prerequisite: This class is open only to students of Thales Academy.

Amy Blackwood

Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago Amy got involved with CYT when she was 12 and continued in the program until she graduated at age 18. Amy then went on to choreograph 20 plus shows for CYT Chicago. Some of her favorites included Beauty and the Beast, High School Musical (which she Directed) and Jungle Book. Amy has always had a love for Musical Theater and dance. She studied dance at Belmont University in Nashville, and then continued her training at Columbia College in Chicago. Amy moved to Missouri and was fortunate to be able to teach for CYT Kansas. Finding her way back to Nashville along with her family, Amy was excited to choreograph CYT Nashville’s first musical "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" in 2013. Amy went on to help direct and choreograph some other favorites including Aladdin, Frog and Toad and Annie. Taking a break from theater Amy went back to school to complete her nursing degree. She is now loving working at Centennial Women’s hospital on the high risk OB unit. Amy’s husband Eric is a Franklin native and together they are happily raising their daughter Annabelle who is a 2nd grader at Thales Academy. Her favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans that I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope."

Tyler Russell

Tyler Russell grew up in Washington state, where he was involved with CYT Vancouver for 8 years. In addition to CYT, Tyler acted professionally in and around Portland, OR throughout high school. In 2011, at 18, Tyler's entire family relocated to Nashville, where he started getting into songwriting and music, and was part of the early years of CYT Nashville. In 2015 he graduated from Lipscomb University where he received his BFA in Theater with a major in Directing and a minor in Musical Theatre performance. Tyler is passionate about using entertainment and the arts to impact the world and shine a light in the darkness. He is so thankful to be part of CYT, and to be back teaching classes. In addition to theater, Tyler is a writer, a singer and a mega coffee drinker!

Elise Horecka
