An introduction to the basics of stage acting. Students will gain basic skills in acting, analyzing, and a working vocabulary of theatre terms. Students will develop an understanding of, and appreciation for, the craft of acting and the art of theatre. Discover the person as a performer and gain confidence on stage through theatre games, exercises, monologues, and scene work.

The goal of the class is to improve the actor’s skills and to provide the foundation for future mastery of their craft.
  • Identify individual vocal, physical and social habits
  • Learn a basic vocal/physical warm up
  • Gain skills in acting, improvisation, and visualization
  • Gain a vocabulary of theatre terms
  • Learn and apply basic text analysis skills
  • Perform scenes and monologues from dramatic texts
  • Begin the foundation of a professional acting resume
  • Complete in-class exercises


Jeff Martinez

Jeff has worked as a theatrical producer and director for numerous productions throughout the Los Angels area in California over the past 20 years. He holds a degree in Communications with a Media Studies emphasis from Azusa Pacific University. He moved to Tennessee in 2015 with his wife and 2 kids, where he now works for Ramsey Solutions. He is very thankful for the opportunity to work with CYT Nashville and share his passion for theatre with the next generation.
