Class Description

Having a good voice is great if you are auditioning for "The Voice" but for musical theater it will only take you so far. Join us as we explore different tools that allow us to turn a song into a story. We will discover how to use not only our voice but our face and our whole body in order to engage our audience the way a movie or play can. Believe it or not, there are some things we do as singers that can distract from truly telling a story. In order to succeed in musical theater, we need to break these habits and learn to become actors who sing!

Jeff Martinez

Jeff has worked as a theatrical producer and director for numerous productions throughout the Los Angels area in California over the past 20 years. He holds a degree in Communications with a Media Studies emphasis from Azusa Pacific University. He moved to Tennessee in 2015 with his wife and 2 kids, where he now works for Ramsey Solutions. He is very thankful for the opportunity to work with CYT Nashville and share his passion for theatre with the next generation.

Clara Martinez

Clara is very thankful to be involved with CYT Nashville. She moved to Nashville from California in 2015 with her husband and 2 kids. She received her degree in Communications with an emphasis in theater in 2001 from Azusa Pacific University. She and her husband ran a non-profit theatre company in California from 2004-2008 and she has choreographed numerous productions for educational theater.
